All horticultural produce continue their metabolic activities after harvest and during storage. Modified atmosphere packaging is a common practice to minimize postharvest losses. As an alternative, active packaging technologies provide interactive controls between the produce, package and surrounding environment to achieve and retain optimal atmospheric conditions inside the packages.
Researchers at the ICAR-Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology in India have reviewed recent active packaging technologies and their applications focused on horticultural produce such as mango. The review article is published in the International Journal of Current Engineering and Technology.
