NO: Verplichte sortering food- en kunststofafval voorgesteld

The Norwegian Environment Agency (Miljødirektoratet) has released a proposal outlining mandatory separation of household food and selected plastics in order to meet recycling targets set by the EU. The 2020 EU target calls for a 50% household waste recycling rate. In 2015, the Norwegian household recycling rate was 38%.
While Norway is not an EU Member State, it is a member of the European Economic Area and complies with most EU Directives and regulations. Municipal governments would be responsible for the implementing the household waste separation policies, but businesses that generate similar waste streams would also be required to separate (Recycling Laws International, 26 januari 2017).
