Amazon in MATS voor verse thuisbezorging food

29 augustus 2017

Amazon is exploring microwave assisted thermal sterilization (MATS) to produce tasty prepared meals that do not need refrigeration. MATS was developed at Washington State University and is being brought to market by a start-up called 915 Labs. MATS involves placing sealed packages of food in pressurized water and heating them with microwaves for several minutes.
Unlike traditional processing methods, where packages are in pressure cookers for up to an hour to kill bacteria but also lowering nutrients, the dishes retain their natural flavour and texture, according to 915 Labs. They are less perishable than ‘real’ fresh food, which is needed for Amazon’s storage and delivery business model.
