Teveel informatie kan leiden tot voedselverspilling

An interesting paper (Foodservice Composting Crowds out Consumer Food Waste Reduction Behaviour in a Dining Experiment) was presented at the 2017 ASSA Annual Meeting by Danyi Qi and Brian E. Roe (Ohio State University). When consumers were informed that remaining food would be composted, they were less inclined to fight food waste. In response to the U.S. announcement of a goal to cut domestic food waste in half by 2030, Rethink Food Waste through Economics and Data (ReFED) has issued a report with 27 strategies addressing food waste. One category of strategies engages consumers and the institutions serving consumers (e.g., food service, supermarkets) to reduce the amount of food wasted.
