‘National Food Waste Strategy’ voor Australië gelanceerd

19 december 2017

Food waste is estimated to cost the Australian economy around $20 billion each year. Consumers throw away around 3.1 million tonnes of edible food a year. Another 2.2 million tonnes is disposed by the commercial and industrial sector. On 20 November 2017 the Minister for the Environment and Energy launched the National Food Waste Strategy. The strategy provides a framework to support collective action towards halving Australia’s food waste by 2030. There is already a significant amount of work underway to target food waste. The strategy seeks to leverage these efforts, and identifies four priority areas - policy support, business improvements, market development, and behaviour change.
