VS: Wetsvoorstel Vermont over etikettering van genetisch gemodificeerd voedsel goedgekeurd door staatssenaat

08 mei 2014

Bill H112, requiring foods produced with genetic engineering to be labelled, passed the state senate and once the state house approves some small amendments and the pending governor has signed, would take effect on July 2016.
The GMO labelling bill would take effect regardless of action from other states, and includes amongst others the stipulation that foods containing genetically engineered ingredients cannot be marketed as ‘natural’. The bill has both supporters and critics; supporters argue that consumers have the right to know what they are eating, critics counter that GE ingredients might erroneously imply less quality of the food (Reuters Nieuwsbericht, 16 april 2014).
