21 oktober 2013

The City Council of Santa Barbara, California has approved an ordinance to prohibit the retail distribution of single-use plastic bags. The ban takes effect 180 days after passage.
Under the ordinance, covered retail stores must charge a 10-cent fee on each recyclable paper bag they distribute. The number of paper bags provided and the total charge must be indicated on the customer’s receipt.
The ordinance applies to supermarkets with at least 10,000 square feet of retail space and drug stores, convenience food stores, food marts, and other similar retail stores that sell food (State Recycling Laws Update, 8 oktober 2013).
