VS: Regelgeving voorgesteld in Chicago om EPS verpakkingen te verbieden

20 januari 2014

Proposed Ordinance O2013-9480 banning polystyrene loose fill packaging food service ware has been introduced to the Chicago City Council. According to the bill, polystyrene foam products “have significant adverse impacts on the environment and that “toxic chemicals leach out of such products into the food that they contain.
The proposed ordinance defines food service ware as “disposable containers, including but not limited to, cups, bowls, plates, trays, clamshell containers, meat trays, and egg cartons. Prepackaged foods from outside of Chicago would be exempt from the ban. If approved, the ordinance would take effect on July 1, 2014 (State Recycling Laws Update, 16 December 2013).
