US: Regelgeving hogere tax op glazen verpakkingen in Hawaii

09 februari 2016

Since 1994, Hawaii has placed an advance disposal fee on glass containers (packaging) brought onto the islands. The fee is “designed to divert glass from the waste stream towards recycling,” according to the Department of Health, which administers the program.
Three members of the Hawaii House of Representatives have introduced a bill to raise the advance disposal fee. The current fee is 1.5 cents per container, but HB 2251 would increase the fee to 3 cents per containers having less than 2 liters of volume and 4.5 cents for containers of having 2 or more liters. If approved, the fee increases would take effect on January 1, 2017 (State Recycling Laws Update, 1 februari 2016).
