Potentieel van groene bananen voor folies en coatings

23 februari 2016

Researchers at the Universiti Putra Malaysia developed biodegradable packaging films based on an unripe green banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) with different plasticizers; glycerol, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and sorbitol at various concentrations. Banana films with 10% of PEG showed the lowest water solubility followed by films with glycerol and sorbitol. Banana films with 40% plasticizers possessed the lowest water vapor permeability. The findings reveal that concentrations and types of plasticizers can provide banana film or coating with good physical properties. An article about the research is published in the International Journal on Advanced Science, Engineering and Information Technology.
