HDPE en EVA folies met de antioxidant quercetine

18 december 2014

Researchers at Jiangnan University, China incorporated the antioxidant quercetin into high density polyethylene (HDPE) and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) films.
They found that the addition of quercetin did not significantly modify the thermal stability or the oxygen barrier, while the water vapour barrier was weakened to some extent. Release of quercetin into 50% ethanol (simulant for high alcohol containing products and some dairy products) and 95% ethanol (simulant for fatty foods) was periodically measured. The films showed a good release profile and could be used for the protection of foods. An article about the research is published in Packaging Technology and Science.
