Filipijnen: Nieuwe poging om eenmalige draagtassen te verbieden geïntroduceerd in Senaat

16 september 2014

On 4 August 2014 another bill was introduced in the Philippine Senate to prohibit stores from distributing single-use bags. However, this bill, SBN 2337, bans all single-use bags “regardless of composition.” Biodegradable plastic bags would be included in the ban.
If the law is enacted, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources will have 60 days from the law’s effective date to promulgate needed rules. However, SBN 2337 calls for a two-year period in which stores would be allowed to phase out their distribution of single-use plastic bags. Stores that fail to phase out single-use bags would face progressive, financial penalties (Recycling Laws International, 15 augustus 2014).
