E-commerce belangrijk onderwerp Material Handling Day
On November 27th, 2013 the first edition of the Material Handling Day took place in The Netherlands. Important topic was the changing role of the distribution centre due to the growth of e-commerce and web retail packaging. This leads to further robotisation of the workflow, problems with combining B2C (Business to Consumer) and B2B-processes in the same facilities and (further) raising the productivity of order pickers while maintaining principles of responsible employment. A short video was made showing advanced developments in The Netherlands.
Web-retailer Amazon has drawn criticism in this area recently in a BBC-documentary showing poor labour conditions in their distribution centres.
