Bioplastic flexibeler door toevoeging eierschaal nanodeeltjes

21 maart 2016

Some manufacturers are producing bioplastics that readily decompose or biodegrade once they are in the ground. However, most of these materials lack the strength and flexibility needed to work well in the packaging industry, so petroleum-based materials continue to dominate the market.
Scientists at Tuskegee University US found that adding tiny shards of eggshell to bioplastic could create a packaging material that bends but does not easily break. The nano-sized eggshell particles add strength to the material and make it more flexible. The researchers presented their work at the American Chemical Society (ACS) 251st National Meeting & Exposition (Nieuwsbericht ACS, 15 maart 2016).
