AU: Rol van mensen, waterstromingen en wind in zeevervuiling

26 oktober 2016

CSIRO-led research, funded by the Australian Packaging Covenant (APC), focused on the links between humans, water flow and wind in Australia’s marine pollution problem. The researchers developed a model that uses meteorological, topographic and national litter data to predict how litter travels through waterways and into the ocean.
The research shows that people are the greatest contributor to marine pollution meaning that to make a real difference, they need to be part of the solution. Storm water systems and the impact of wind also play an important role in the movement of litter from its deposition into the ocean (Persbericht APC, 29 september 2016).
