Vochtbestendigheid van biodegradeerbare folies

26 oktober 2015

For effective replacement of plastics, with biodegradable materials, biodegradable packages should keep their properties under the high relative humidity (RH) conditions. Researchers at The University of Jordan developed biodegradable packaging material based on whey protein isolate (WPI) and pea starch (PS). To study their mechanical, oxygen barrier and solubility properties under different RHs the films were compared with low density polyethylene (LDPE) films.
The results suggest that WPI could be successful in replacing LDPE in packaging for moist products. An article about the research is published in the IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering.
