UK onderzoek: Aparte inzamelingen niet beter voor het milieu

01 mei 2015

In an article researchers at the University of Surrey, UK, argue for a different approach to recycling. They refer to a study in Surrey performed by the Surrey Waste Partnership (SWP).
SWP considered 3 scenarios: the current system, optimised commingled and optimised source-segregated. They found that in most instances, the impact of total recycled material for commingled collections had a greater positive effect on the environment, as opposed to its source-segregated counterpart. Fundamentally, recycling on this scale must be treated as a system and the optimum performance of the system may mean that individual parts do not achieve their full potential (Nieuwsbericht IOM3, 1 maart 2015).
