Lignocellulose plant polysachariden voor biobased materiaal

25 juni 2015

In a review, published in the Journal of Applied Polymer Science, researchers at AlbaNova University Centre in Sweden address the potential and challenges of lignocellulosic plant polysaccharides for biobased packaging materials. Plant polysaccharides can generate materials with comparable mechanical performance to other synthetic biopolymers, as well as excellent barrier properties.
Further emphasis should be placed on the modification of these materials to reduce their water sensitivity and enhance their heat stability for eventual thermal processing. The use of enzymes offers a wide range of possibilities for the selective and targeted modification of polysaccharides at milder conditions.
