In 2012 the Benelux Packaging Award De Gouden Noot will be organised for the 26th time. Since the first edition in 1958, more than 2000 packaging innovations have competed for De Gouden Noot. For more information about De Gouden Noot or to request an entry form, please contact Ger Standhardt.
With De Gouden Noot the NVC Netherlands Packaging Centre stimulates innovation of packaging and packaged products. Retailers, producers of packaged products, design agencies or packaging suppliers: they all have the chance to win De Gouden Noot. Because working closely together is essential for most packaging innovations it is also possible to enter the competition together, for example as producer of the product with the supplier of the packaging. Winning this competition brings the company a lot of international publicity and acknowledges the work put into the packaging. The unique trophy with a solid golden walnut is the symbol of this competition. |

Judging All entries are judged by an independent jury, based on the information supplied by the participant. The jury consists of professionals that work in the entire supply chain of packaged products, from raw material supplier to retailer. The jury is chaired by prof.dr. Onno Omta, Professor Management of Innovation at Wageningen University and Research. Click here for an overview of the members of the jury of 2012.

During the first round all entries are judged individually by the jury members (day 1) and discussed in a plenary session (day 2). At the end of this round the jury chooses the ten entries that proceed to the final judging round. All entries that do not proceed to the final receive a confidential report from the competition secretariat with the comments of the jury. The jury judgement is binding. In the final judging round the finalists get to present their packaging innovation to the entire jury, after which the jury decides who wins De Gouden Noot. The finalists can win the Bronzen (bronze), Zilveren (silver) or Gouden (gold) Noot, or receive a Finalist trophy. The winner is announced during the NVCPackaging Innovation Dinner which takes place on the first evening of the Dutch packaging exhibition Macropak.
International promotion All finalists will be promoted by the NVC for two years, from the moment they have reached the final. This will be done through press and internet, but also on trade fairs and conferences. As a start, the ten finalists will be presented at www.degoudennoot.nl as soon as it is announced which entries have made it to the final round. The finalists will be announced both in Dutch and English through the more than 300 national and international press contacts of the NVC. The finalists will also be published on the EPIC European Packaging Website www.epic-packaging.org, just like the other winners of European packaging awards. EPIC is the project-organisation of the national packaging institutes of Europe.
Promotion through trade fairs will be executed through presentations by the NVC, but the finalists themselves will also have the opportunity to present their packaging innovation. A central role is reserved for Macropak (2-5 October 2012), where the ten finalists will be exhibited at the NVC-stand near the entrance of the trade fair. Other trade fairs that are on the programme are Empack Brussels 2012, Innopack 2012 (Madrid) and Empack Den Bosch 2013. The finalists are also visually promoted at the NVC-stand during the interpack (Düsseldorf). The exact form of promotion will vary per trade fair, depending on the available opportunities.
The finalists are allowed to enter the WorldStar Packaging Award. In this competition winners of all the national packaging awards compete with each other for worldwide recognition. |
